Moving your car insurance to another carrier could save you money!

Why move your coverage to another carrier?
People move their car insurance coverage to another insurance company for many different reasons. Some of these include:

- Problems with service and support with your current provider.
- Job changes that make you eligible for group discounts with another car insurance company.
- More advantageous coverage options.
- Moving to a state where your car insurance carrier doesn’t offer coverage.

But here is the most important reason:

Your current company’s rates are simply not competitive for the same level of coverage you could get with another carrier, and switching providers could save you a lot of money.

The safest cars.

Every year, the Insurance Institute for Highway safety www.iihs.org makes its Top Safety Picks for vehicles. The Top Safety Picks for 2008 are shown below. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety conducts front and side crashes at high speeds as well as evaluating seat/head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts. The first requirement for a vehicle to become a Top Safety Pick is that the vehicle must earn good ratings in all three Institute tests. In addition, winning vehicles must also offer electronic stability control. This requirement is based on Institute research indicating that electronic stability control significantly reduces crash risk, especially the risk of fatal single-vehicle crashes, by helping drivers maintain control of their vehicles during emergency maneuvers.

Auto insurance questions & answers.

We get a lot of questions at QualityAutoInsurance.com from our customers about car insurance. A few of the more frequently asked questions are summarized below.

“Do I really need automobile insurance?”Yes you do. Even if you’ve never been involved in an accident you still need insurance. If you ever do have an accident, you risk losing all you have – especially if someone is injured and you are at fault. Auto insurance is the best protection you can have should you be involved in an accident. In addition, you are required by law to carry a minimum level of car insurance coverage. The minimum coverage limits vary by state. You should consult the Department of Insurance site for your state to determine your states minimum coverage requirements. Should you be involved in an accident – even a minor one – and you are uninsured, you could face significant legal issues.

“Does the type of car I drive affect my car insurance rates?”
Typically yes. Auto insurance companies take into account the type of vehicle you are driving in calculating your rates. Safer vehicles will often mean a lower premium, as will cars of lesser value.

Credit scores may affect car insurance rates.

In a number of states, insurance companies also consider your credit history when evaluating your rates. A good or bad credit history may affect your ability to purchase auto insurance coverage and will also help determine what premium you’ll pay. Many people believe that only their driving record is important in getting a good rate on their car insurance, but that’s simply not the case. The majority of auto insurance companies consider credit to be a very important rating variable.

Why is my credit history important? Insurance companies use a wide variety of criteria to determine whom they should insure and what rate they should charge the individual. When applying for auto insurance, your insurance company may consider your age, driving record, and how many insurance claims you’ve filed in the past. They also will consider things like the make and model of your car, where you live, and how much driving you do. More recently, however, insurance companies have also begun using credit information as an additional factor in evaluating risk.

  Driving records impact insurance rates.

Most states have a “department of motor vehicles” or similar organization that monitors driving records for people licensed to drive in that state. These departments often use a point system to track an individual’s driving record. Infractions such as moving violations, accidents, and others are assigned a certain point value depending on the severity of the infraction. When a person is found guilty of one of these infractions, the appropriate number of points are added to that person’s driving record. The more points you have, the worse your driving record from the perspective of someone reviewing that record.

Auto insurance companies review the driving records of people who are applying for auto insurance with their company. This review is designed to determine whether or not you meet the insurance company’s standards of insurability and to evaluate your risk potential. Incidents such as moving violations and accidents negatively impact your driving record while having a clean record for a long period of time will positively impact it.

Insuring your new car.

Be prepared when buying a new car.The process of buying a new car is very exciting for most people. It can also be an incredibly overwhelming experience. Car companies offer an amazing number of makes, models, styles, and colors to choose from, and as if that wasn’t enough, once you decide on the type of car you want, most models offer an amazing array of options to choose from that add to making the car just right for you. These, in turn, bring a dizzying number of pricing options that make it difficult to determine whether or not you are getting a good price for the car you want. Beyond this, there are the financing requirements and the cost of insuring the car that must be addressed during the purchase. However, even with all this complexity, there are some things you can do – before you shop – that can help make the buying process quicker, easier, and far more satisfying.

Getting cheap car insurance: Factors that affect your car insurance rates.

Automobile insurance premiums are based on a large number of factors, some of which you can control, and some of which you cannot. Auto insurance rates are based on statistical models that help determine the level of risk each insured person represents for the insurance carrier. For example, statistically, a 17-year-old boy in a muscle car living in a big city is far more likely to hit something – or be hit by something – than a 35-year-old married mother-of-two driving a minivan around the suburbs.

The unfortunate thing is that some of the factors that affect your insurance rates just cannot be changed. That being said, there are things you can do to keep your insurance premiums as low as possible.
